Carolyn C. ColeManager, Energy Initiatives, United States Postal Service
Carolyn C. Cole is the Manager of the United States Postal Service’s Energy Initiatives group, reporting to the Vice President of Sustainability. She is responsible for leading cross-functional efforts to reduce energy consumption and costs while maintaining continuity of operations. Ms. Cole created the first national energy management plan in the history of the Postal Service. This new plan identifies goals and standards for energy reduction and consumption for facility energy management, fleet management, fuel use and energy consumption. The Postal Service has a complex eco-system that includes mail processing, transportation, retail, delivery, buildings, equipment, supplies, services and almost 700,000 employees in 34,000 facilities nationwide, including Puerto Rico, Guam, the American Virgin Islands and American Samoa. As the Energy Initiatives Manager, Ms. Cole provides decisive leadership and expert knowledge in establishing key energy management policies to guide the Postal Service towards a more sustainable and effective energy conservation culture. She has had a notable 21-year professional career in the private and federal sectors. Before joining the Sustainability team, Ms. Cole served as Business Project Leader for the USPS Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to manage the “Protection of Sensitive Data” project. The project’s ultimate goal was to protect all personal and financial (Personal and Identifiable Information – PII) data for the agency and its employees. She also responded on behalf of the CTO to audit inquiries from the Office of the Inspector General and Government Accountability Office and suggested actions necessary to prevent impacts on delivery and quality of service to all USPS IT users. In addition, Ms. Cole increased USPS employee security awareness by creating a national Security Awareness video. Previously, she served as Senior Management Team Member supporting the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Washington Telecommunication and Computing Services contract at Lockheed Martin. Ms. Cole is active in a number of professional and community organizations. She received her Master of Science in Applied Management from the University of Maryland and her Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Syracuse University. She is also a certified Project Management Professional and completed Lean Six Sigma training.
